The design focuses on:
Modularity and Reuse: Timber components can be easily disassembled, transported, and reassembled, allowing the building to adapt to different locations or functions.
Simple Construction: Using an X-PLATE connection system with CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) panels, the structure can be erected by volunteers under the guidance of trained supervisors. The modular approach facilitates a low-skill “self-build” process.
Energy Efficiency: The building envelope is optimised for minimal energy consumption while maintaining comfort.
Sustainability: Timber sourcing, design for disassembly, and the low-carbon construction strategy all contribute to a reduced environmental impact.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful timber engineering can combine environmental responsibility, ease of construction, and versatile social space, making it suitable for both temporary and semi-permanent applications.
