In the heart of the historic and sacred village of Fatima, Portugal, this project breathes new life into a decaying country house and its adjacent three-century-old ruins. The design gently transforms the interior, opening up the once-compartmentalised spaces into a fluid, contemporary layout, while honouring the timeless stone façade and the enduring charm of the original architecture.
Modern living is thoughtfully woven into the fabric of the house: sustainable technologies, energy-conscious solutions, and carefully chosen materials ensure comfort without compromising heritage. Here, the exterior is never separate from daily life. Both the front and back gardens hold small historical and religious relics, silent witnesses to the generations who have called this home their own.
The ongoing transformation seeks to harmonise these intimate traces of the past with spaces that invite modern living—lounging, gathering, and reflection—where every corner tells a story. The house becomes a living dialogue between history and the present, a place where tradition, memory, and contemporary comfort coexist in quiet balance.
