Set within a footprint of 20m², this project explores how a compact dwelling can operate as a self-sustaining, low-impact intervention within the landscape. Rooted in Circular Economy principles, the design prioritises adaptability, material efficiency, and long-term lifecycle performance.
A tall, narrow form minimises ground disturbance while enhancing vertical spatial quality and framed views. Organised along environmental lines, the building draws in warm southern light to animate the primary living and studio spaces, while, at the rear, a glazed tri-fold door opens onto a modest patio at the cooler northern edge. Carefully positioned openings balance expansive views with thermal performance.
Lightweight construction and prefabricated timber elements enable rapid assembly, minimal waste, and future disassembly. Material selection—charred timber and modular stone—reflects durability, low maintenance, and a sensitivity to place.
Rather than imposing on the site, the building integrates with it: reshaped ground, restrained massing, and subdued materiality allow it to recede into the landscape. Renewable energy systems further support autonomy, reinforcing the studio as a prototype for resilient, small-scale, environmentally responsive living.
